Your notes live on your device first

Everything you write is stored on your own Mac or iPhone, and the app works fully with no internet connection. Syncing is optional and adds a second copy; it is not where your notes are kept.

What we store when you sign in and sync

If you create an account and turn on sync, we store:

• Your account: your email address, and how you signed in (email and password, or Google).
• Your notes and their settings, so they can reach your other devices.
• Files you attach to notes — images, PDFs, books and similar — so they can be downloaded on your other devices.
• Your plan, and a reference to your payment account (see Payments below).
• Small pieces of reading state, such as where you stopped in a book, so another device can pick up at the same place.

Your notes and account are stored with Supabase. Attached files are stored with Cloudflare, under a folder named from a one-way hash of your email address rather than the address itself. Both are used only to store and deliver your own data back to you.

What never leaves your device

• Meeting and voice transcription runs on your Mac. The audio is processed locally and is never uploaded.
• The built-in assistant can run entirely on your Mac with a local model, in which case your notes go nowhere.
• Your app preferences — theme, typeface, shortcuts and the like — stay on the device that has them.

Services you choose to connect

Some features talk to another service, and only when you use them:

• Google Calendar: if you connect a Google account, FocusNote reads your calendar events to show them beside your notes. It does not create, change or delete events.
• Gmail: if you connect Gmail, FocusNote reads your messages so you can view and act on them inside the app. Actions you take — such as archiving or marking as read — are sent to Gmail on your behalf.
• AI assistants: if you add your own API key for OpenAI or xAI, the text you send to the assistant goes directly from your device to that provider, under your own account with them. FocusNote does not route it through its servers and does not provide these keys.
• ChatGPT and Claude connector: if you connect FocusNote to ChatGPT or Claude (mcp.focusnote.app), you sign in to FocusNote and allow read access. When the assistant asks, the connector reads your synced notes and tasks as you, and passes what it read to that assistant, which handles it under your own account and its own privacy terms. The connector can only read, cannot change anything, and keeps nothing it reads. It keeps the sign-in that lets it read for you, encrypted, until you disconnect or leave it unused for 90 days. You can disconnect in ChatGPT or Claude at any time.
• Background photos come from Unsplash, and the weather widget uses OpenWeatherMap. They receive the search or location needed to answer the request.

The keys that let FocusNote reach your Google account are kept on your device — on a Mac, encrypted with the system keychain. You can disconnect a Google account in the app at any time, and revoke FocusNote’s access from your Google Account settings.

How we use Google user data

FocusNote’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

In practice that means: Google data is used only to provide the calendar and mail features you turned on, inside the app. It is not sold, not used for advertising, not used to build profiles of you, and not used to train AI models. People do not read it, except with your explicit permission for support, where it is needed for security, or where the law requires it.

Payments

Payments are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card number. We keep a reference to your Stripe customer account and which plan you are on, so the app knows what you have paid for.

What we do not do

• We do not sell your data, or share it with anyone for their own purposes.
• We do not show ads.
• We do not include analytics or tracking in the apps.
• We do not read your notes.

Deleting your data

Deleting a note in the app deletes it from sync as well. To protect against accidental loss, a copy of a deleted note is kept on the server for 30 days, and can be recovered in that time if you ask us to. After 30 days it is removed for good.

To delete your account and everything stored with it, email lexicalnote@gmail.com from the address you signed up with. Notes stored only on your own devices are yours to keep or delete as you like.

Changes to this policy

If FocusNote starts handling your information differently, this page will be updated first, and the date at the top will change.
